KC to Wildcat Mountain, the hilly route.

Left the Knapp Creek homestead at 8:00 AM this morning, after a night of wild thunderstorms. The cabin/garage is amazingly comfortable and well-stocked, but it has no insulation so it *sounded* like we were in a tent. I think it rained for several hours — good thing too, they need it.

Our route was complicated and our time is limited with this post because dinner awaits and our internet connectivity is only next to the bathrooms when facing east, standing on one leg. Suffice to say that we spent all day going up and down hills. Five hours in the saddle (seven hours on the road), 90 degree heat, 8 32oz bottles of Powerade and hills, hills, hills.

Liz was an amazing trooper and we managed to climb all but the last, which was the final driveway into Wildcat Mountain State Park, 50 miles distant from our point of departure. I’m reasonably sure I would have had to push our Corolla to get it up that last hill, so we don’t feel bad at all.

Overall a success as we knew today would be something of an enigma. Tomorrow we’ll be doing some rail trails, which will be a nice change of pace.

Here’s today’s route on MapMyRide.
