“…and I would [bike 480] miles…”

Yesterday we made it home, after a beautiful 60 mile day that was through mostly familiar terrain. We found ourselves (by no accident) winding around small rivers and (maybe a bit by accident, but more be necessity) climbing across a series of rather steep moraines that punctuate eastern Dodge and western Sheboygan County. Cities visited included Mayville, Theresa, Kewaskum and finally Oostburg. Overall it was nothing like our worst climbing days and we averaged nearly 12mph, including a stop for a rather lengthy train:
Train was moving along nicely, along the US Highway 41 corridor.

Total trip mileage came in at 482 for me, and probably about 490 for Liz due to differences in how our computers were calibrated; at least I hope that’s the reason for the discrepancy.

All was supremely well on the home front, with the dogs and house very well taken care of (thank you Kim!), and now it’s down to the unpacking, and the settling in, and the resting of the weary bodies. We’ll try to do a wrap-up post soon (before it loses relevance) with some more pictures and maybe some more general routing information. It’s funny how after a trip like this, I can still visualize every turn we made in my head. I’m not sure I could say the same thing for a driving tour.

Lots of thanks go to lots of people for the fun times we had on this trip. Lianne, George, and Dave for the fun times out at Knapp Creek. Carmen, Troy, Linda, Ed, Tim and Marjorie for good times back in Madison. Y’all should stop by our neck of the woods sometime soon.
