The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Here we go again on our Grand Tour of Southern Wisconsin, all up and 2013-style.

Always ones to over-prepare, we’ve got lists for every possible situation in our lives. Bike Trip 2013 is no exception to the rule. This is great, as it means that when we reserve an entire day for packing, we actually end up with a mostly a free day. Unfortunately, it also means that we’re idle and looking outside at a beautiful cycling day missed, and we’re anxious to get started.

Our trip this year will share many things in common with last year, but one thing it seems likely not to share is the temperature. Last year, large parts of trip were spent in the 90-100 degree F range, and this year I think we’ll be lucky if he hit 80 on most days. We’re not complaining one bit.

We have a lot of things planned — camping at a half dozen state parks, a few family cottages, two bikes, and of course, two bikers. As far as our route goes, we hope it will be a lazy loop around Madison, WI, leaving from our home base near Sheboygan, WI. Somewhere in the ballpark of 500 miles, it won’t be a herculean effort, but we’ll probably (and gladly) shed a few pounds along the way.

Our Big Rigs, July 2013

So,  while we’ve got a big-picture plan, we let the details work themselves out and take it a day at a time. We’ve got no reservations, and yes, we do make frequent stops.
