Contemplation? Stagnation?
Boscobel today — and it’s a hot one. We did about 15-20 miles so far, with one pretty spectacular climb that tested our limits even with 1/4 of our normal touring weight. The goal was to get from the Knapp Creek homestead to Boscobel, avoiding State Highway 60 and US Highway 61 as much as possible. This necessarily meant a trip into the bluffs and highlands above the WI river. Unfortunately for tired cyclists, in areas like this low-traffic and flat roads are orthogonal to each other.
Anyway, after arriving in Boscobel we found a lovely coffee shop (from which we type right now) with great panini sandwiches and a huge menu of iced beverages. After we get our core temperatures down to normal, we’ll head to the grocery store to get a fresh batch of gatorade, dinner supplies (2:00 plan!) and maybe even a big bag of ice, half of which will be sacrificed to Apollo on the way back with the other half being sacrificed to Dionysus later tonight.
Boscobel was a bit bittersweet; we rode right past the canoe outfitters where Liz and I met Troy, Marci, Tate and Hannah for our Wisconsin River escapades last summer. Great memories of them as a family will eventually prevail.
We’ll be heading “home” on a smaller road south of the river, over to Blue River again and then up and around like the tail end of our route yesterday. This will complete a very pleasant circuit on a very hot day.
Did I mention the heat?
Stop using those big words. I cant understand a word you just said… 🙂
