On the road… or trail… again.

Last night Liz and I joined the celebration of the end of one trip of our Norwegian friends, and prepared for the beginning of our own this morning. Unfortunately for us, often the things one does at the end of a trip (drink, stay up late, etc) are not the things one does at the beginning. So as we stumbled awake this morning, we weren’t too disappointed with a two hour rain delay that had us out on the road by about 9:00 AM.

The Madison trail systems have come a long ways since we both lived in the city. We were able to hop on a trail about 4 blocks from Liz’s parents’ house pretty much have enjoyed it for the last twenty miles. Right now we’re stopped for a leisurely elevensies lunchbreak in Mt. Horeb.

So far the weather has been great, with a hint of some sprinkles and a very light headwind. I’m enjoying flashbacks to years of riding the military ridge trail, including a trip when I was very young (11?) where my mom, dad and I did self-supported camping from Madison to Governor Dodge State park on our bikes for a week. I’m sure I was an absolute joy to be with that week because I was truly an angel at the age.

We’re typing this up on our Chromebook with Verizon 3G service included. Thanks Google! It’s a lot easier than typing on our phones, which probably wouldn’t even work here anyways — thanks for nothing AT&T!

So, Mt. Horeb, Barneveld, Ridgeway and Dodgeville await.  More updates later!
